Balanced Scorecard

Course details

The Balanced Scorecard is a strategic planning and performance management tool, used extensively in business and industry, government and non-profit organisations worldwide to align and measure business activities against the vision and strategy of the organisation.

The Balanced Scorecard is based on information from a set of perspectives of the business, its purpose is to:

  • improve internal and external communications
  • monitor organisation performance against strategic goals
  • enable balanced decision making

Using financial information alone is focusing on the past, using the Balanced Scorecard will help to add future value. Devised by Drs. Robert Kaplan (Harvard Business School) and David Norton, it is estimated that now over 50% of large organisations in the US have adopted this framework.
